Job Description

Portuguese speaking candidates The incumbent will be based on site in Angola. The role of the SHERQ Officer is to assist the SHERQ Manager in planning, implementing and overseeing the company’s employee safety at work. The SHERQ department’s main duty is to ensure that the company complies with and adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines, as well as any and all other legislated safety requirements in a Project and mining operation based in Angola. Our ideal candidate is experienced, responsible, and team-focused.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the following

• Act in the position of SHERQ Manager whilst the SHERQ Manager is not on site.
• Assist with the implementation, application, management and monitoring of the Safety Control System, processes and procedures according to organisational and legislative requirements.
• Champion Safety and Health on the project/mine.
• Participate in internal risk assessment processes.
• Conduct inspections to determine and improve level of compliance to Health and Safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents and incidents and monitor remedial actions.
• Accompany the Inspector of Mine/Inspector of Machinery or any other government institution representative during visits to the Project/mine and participate in any/all enquiries.
• Participate in SHE related meetings; safety awareness campaigns and external SHE audits.
• Gather input/data for SHE reports and statistics according to organisational requirements.
• Conduct internal audits according to organisational procedures and legislative requirements.
• Assist in maintaining the SHE Risk Management System according to organisational requirements.
• Log inspections, incidents, accidents and audits.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Qualification in Safety Management or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety.
• COMSOC (or similar) Mine Safety Training 1 and 2 highly preferential.
• 5 years’ Safety and Health experience in a project/mining environment.
• Knowledge and experience of Angolan Safety and Health requirements.
• Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Pro-active thinker and have the ability to do own job planning.
• Able to work without supervision.
• Good communication skills and problem solving abilities.
• Good negotiation skills to ensure that all stakeholders at all levels adhere to SHERQ standards.
• Ability to communicate in Portuguese and English advantageous.
