This UNV assignment is in the UNODC Programme Office in Mozambique, Maputo (POMOZ), Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSAF), Division for Operations (DO) of UNODC. The overall objective of UNODC’s engagement in Mozambique is to assist the authorities in having a holistic, effective, and pragmatic response to drug use, drug trafficking, illicit trafficking, organized crime, corruption and terrorism, through both a national and regional perspective. POMOZ implements several programmes within the mandated area and promotes the implementation of the ‘Maputo Roadmap’, a policy document that defines the framework of cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and UNODC in the country. The UNV will support the implementation and monitoring of the roadmap in its four inter-linked areas; combatting transnational organized crime, preventing drug use, preventing terrorism and violent extremism, and improving justice systems and integrity in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.
Under the overall coordination of Regional Representative for Southern Africa, the direct supervision of the UNODC Head of Office in Mozambique and daily orientation the Drug Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

UN Volunteer will be based in Maputo, Mozambique, where UNODC POMOZ is located. Mozambique is at security level 2 and is considered non-restrictive regarding travel. Currently there are no significant security threats in Maputo and not direct threats to UN personnel or assets in the province. It is the Youth UNV responsibility to comply with immigration, customs and health requirements while entering/exiting the country
