The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. WFP Nutrition Division (NUT) is committed to providing the right tools, guidelines and information to help support the development and implementation of nutrition programmes. The Division covers different functional areas including nutrition sensitive programming, which is meant to enhance the potential of other WFP Programme to improve nutrition.
Long-lasting recovery of acute malnutrition cases depends on the ability to mitigate the immediate and intermediate determinants of acute malnutrition at the household level. One way of achieving this is by establishing a referral mechanism to enroll caretakers of acutely malnourished children, including pregnant and lactating women and PLHIV/TB also diagnosed with acute malnutrition to social safety nets programs to improve the household’s livelihood and food security status. A counter-referral system of cases of acute malnutrition through these programmes is to be also explored.
