Dredging and Geomorphological Advisor

Heading is recruiting for its client, an oil and gas company, a Dredging and Geomorphological Advisor (M/F) to work on rotation (Afungi rotator).

Service Purpose

The Dredging and Geo-Engineering Advisor (DGA) is responsible to the Marine Operations Manager.

The Dredging and Geo-Engineering Advisor shall provide marine expertise and guidance for any marine activity concerned with channel dredging and the stability of the local coastal environment, with the objective of securing safe access to and berthing within the concession area, and protecting the local natural, social and engineered environment of the coastal system.

The DGA is responsible to the Marine Operation Manager to oversee that all marine channel dredging/maintenance and local marine environment monitoring works in accordance with the Project requirements and the Project HES Management System. The DGA shall ensure implementation and adherence to the requirements of the Project Management System and those specific accountabilities documented and summarized in the HES Policy Manual in regards to marine operations and in the HES Safe Work Practices Manual.

The DGA will work a schedule based on operational activity and is expected to be present during any major activity under his/her supervision. The DGA will typically work a 12 hour day but may be required to work outside this time if the needs arise.

The DGA will work with, coach and mentor all national trainees of the AMA1 Marine Organization, this will specifically include the mentoring of the Dredging and Geomorphological Trainee in all technical and commercial aspects of the marine environment, including oceanographic and geomorphological data collection, relating to the stability of the coastal areas, maintenance dredging, mitigation works relating to either of the former, navigation buoy maintenance, diving inspections and any other marine related geo-engineering activity.

The DGA is expected to remain abreast of industry developments and standards.

Responsibilities

Ensure all activities are conducted to implement and adhere to the requirements of the project HES Management System and those specific accountabilities documented and summarized in the HES Policy Manual. In particular:

• Liaise with contractor personnel regarding HES issues.  Ensure that contractor’s policies and procedures are in full compliance with Project requirements;
• Assure the project HSSES and Quality objectives are being followed;
• Report incidents and near misses immediately;
• Assist with coordination of all emergency drills, including oil spill response activities and emergency exercises;
• Attend all relevant project meetings;
• Adhered to all national and international laws, rules, regulations and recommendations;
• Knowledge of industry statutory rules and regulations, vetting requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Maritime/Marine Engineering or equivalent experience;
• Minimum 5 years dredging related experience on major LNG projects;
• Experience working with major capital dredging projects in oil and gas terminals;
• Preferably worked on a major LNG terminal capital and/or maintenance dredging projects;
• Experience with third party verification surveys of dredging campaigns;
• Experience with bathymetric surveys and volumetric calculations;
• Geomorphological and oceanographic data collection;
• Experience with Navigation buoy installation, inspection and maintenance;
• Familiar with all capital dredging and reclamation processes;
• Familiar with Oil and Gas Terminal Operations, including best practices;
• Strong communication and teamwork skills;
• Capable of working in a multinational environment, sensitive to the local culture and International workforce;
• Strong computer ability and skills;
• Fluency in oral and written English required; Portuguese language skills advantageous;
• Advanced Training skills.
