The M-Pesa Risk Officer participates in identifying, measuring, mitigating, monitoring and reporting risks across the Business. The M-Pesa Risk Officer works with the division heads to build a culture of risk management in the organization, to develop risk mitigation strategies by department, process and/or project and to accumulate, synthesize and report on risks to the Risk Management Committee and Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee. The role includes responsibility for establishing risk procedures and routines to support M-Pesa risk methodology.
Key Accountabilities and Decision Ownership
Support the Business in the evolution and management of M-Pesa’s Enterprise Risk Management Program and Model Risk Management Program.
Assist in the enterprise risk management strategy that safeguards M-Pesa’s customers, vendors and stakeholders.
Develop processes to ensure product compliance and risk management from inception to launch.
Establish M-Pesa’s stress testing framework that covers the major risks of Operating risk, Counterparty risk and liquidity risks.
Develop, maintain and update M-Pesa’s Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) in line with M-Pesa’s strategy and in compliance with regulations, including all Central Bank reporting on prudential risks.

Must Have Technical/ Professional Qualifications
University degree in a business related course. Postgraduate qualification and professional risk qualification will be an added advantage.
At least 5 years experience in Banking with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in Risk & Compliance.
Ability to understand and document workflows and business processes.
Knowledge and effective application of banking policies, processes and practices.
A sound understanding of regulatory framework.
Ability to understand and interpret financial information and principles.
Key Performance Indicators
Management capability to deal with incidents, following the predefined communication and escalation channels according to the respective Business Continuity Plans, including incidents affecting systems (isolated and aggregated) within the pre-defined timelines with the lowest impact to the customer.
Ability to prevent, detect and reduce subscription frauds, GSM Gateways (SIM Boxes), e-money fraud, airtime fraud and any other type of GSM or e-money fraud which impacts the business.
Existence of processes, procedures and good practices that assure the safety of the company sites, assets, people and reputation by managing all Vodacom Risks in accordance with Vodacom standards Direct reports: 0 (initially to grow further as position is more defined).
