Mission and Objectives
UNESCO’s mission is to contribute to the building of a culture of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information
UNESCO has been working in Mozambique since the Member State joined the Organization in 1976. Organization fully applies its two top priorities i.e. gender equality (the Organization objective is now either gender transformation or gender equality, depending on the Member State or the specific situation) and Africa (alignment with African Union (AU) continental and sub-regional strategies. While issues at stake cover all UNESCO domains of competence and key priorities, given the priorities set forth for the recovery, the focus of the proposed set of interventions are on (i) rehabilitation of tangible and intangible cultural sites and practices; (ii) culture of peace and non-violence; (iii) environment and sustainable development within the framework of the Man and Biosphere (MAB), and (iv) post-conflict/post-disaster response. UNESCO’s culture sector in Mozambique is operating with only one staff-the Program Officer. In this context, it is intended to recruit a program assistant to assist in the implementation of the Sector’s work plan. To that end, the office has developed these terms of reference (ToR) to allow and guide to program assistant opportunities in the CLT sector as per the organizational requirements and procedures. The program assistant will support the sector in the implementation of the two (2) Strategic Objectives 7 and 8: 1) Protecting, promoting and transmitting heritage and 2) Fostering creativity and diversity of cultural expressions. Specifically, the Programme Assistant will provide assistance in Program Planning, Implementing, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting at the level of C/5, SDG, UNDAF, amongst other activities. The Administrative Office Unit will provide the necessary support for services to engage the programme Specialist to assist in the implementation of the culture programme and administrative duties and to extend administrative/logistic supports to the sector in this specific responsibility.
